A pair of elected officials said the foreclosure crisis is still alive and well in areas such as Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, where scammers, banks and even city programs are unfairly seizing property from longtime residents. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and City Councilman Robert Cornegy Jr. said Monday that many owners have had their property taken through outright fraud, or under bank or city programs that hinge on unpaid bills that amount to only a fraction of a home's value.
