For those who do not know, Phil Spector is a songwriter and music producer credited with great artistry, who created a thing in pop called the “Wall of Sound.” The Spector story got less glorious in 2003 when he was arrested for murder. But that is also when he met his current wife, Rachelle Short Spector, who he is now divorcing from prison.

Spector, 75, is serving a 19-year prison sentence in Stockton, California for murder. He is concerned, reports Celebrity Net Worth, that his wife is spending all of his money while he’s locked up. Spector will be eligible for parole in 2028.

Evidence Exceptions

Rachelle Short Spector is a deli waitress who fell in love with Phil after he was arrested for murder, and stood beside him while he was twice tried for the killing of Lana Clarkson. The actress, 40, was found dead in Phil’s mansion with a single gunshot wound to her mouth.

Reportedly, the producer was seen with a gun and heard saying, “I think I’ve killed someone.” And Spector had a record of pulling weapons on women if they rebuffed his advances. Employing an evidentiary exception to the general principle that past acts are inadmissible as evidence of crime commission, prosecutors introduced testimony from women threatened by Spector to show lack of accident or mistake with respect to the Clarkson killing.

Spector’s first trial in 2007 ended in a hung jury and was called a mistrial. In 2009, he was tried again and convicted of second-degree murder in California and sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Rachelle’s Efforts

According to Rachelle’s attorney, his client earned a pilot’s license to visit Spector in prison more often, and a private investigator’s license to help work on his appeal. But Spector filed for divorce because he claims the lady is spending too much.

Attorney Aaron Abramovitz, representing Rachelle Spector, issued a statement in response to the claims, according to US News and World Report. “This whole situation is heartbreakingly bizarre,” Abramowitz wrote. “It is regrettable that Mr. Spector has failed to recognize the efforts made by Rachelle in spending tens of thousands of dollars on his medical and dental costs while incarcerated.”

But apparently it’s this ease with his money that has made the mister so mad. Rachelle is accused of buying her mother two homes, among other extravagances. And Phil Spector, whose Wall of Sound is funding all this, is breaking his silence from behind bars. He has a daughter and has asked that she be put In charge of his finances while he’s locked up.
