There are several steps in the divorce process, which can be overwhelming, especially given the emotionally-taxing effect of ending a marriage. One of the steps involved in a divorce is figuring out who owns what in marital property, and coming to an agreement on diving the property. Leave it to a celebrity to come up with a creative way to divide divorce property — an auction.

That’s what Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer, his soon-to-be ex-wife, are doing with their marital property. The former couple’s marital property will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s Australia at an event titled: “The Art of Divorce.”

Not Your Typical Marital Property

While most people’s marital property includes things like household goods, money, and maybe some jewelry, Crowe and Spencer’s marital property includes much more. Fine art, furniture, jewelry, antique vehicles, musical instruments and even items from some of Crowe’s movies will be included in the auction. For example, swords, costumes, and even a function replica Roman chariot from the movie Gladiator will be part of the divorce auction. It’s not surprising that two people who don’t possess the typical marital property would decide to have a divorce auction to get rid of and divide their assets.

While you may not have as many assets — or assets that are as expensive — as a celebrity, it can still be difficult to divide divorce property. If you need help with dividing marital property, or other aspects of your divorce, you may want to reach out to a divorce attorney who can answer any questions and guide you through the divorce process.
