Petitions to foreclose Massachusetts homes declined on a year-over-year basis in September, a possible sign that a huge backlog of delinquent mortgages is beginning to finally ease. The Warren Group reported this week that lenders in Massachusetts filed 958 petitions to foreclose during September, down 18.7 percent from the 1,179 filed in September 2015.
