Ferraris are fun, especially if you can drive them fast. But, usually speeding in a Ferrari will get you a ticket. Well, it seems that Gordon Ramsay has found a way to speed around LA in his Ferrari while also avoiding a speeding ticket. He recently admitted to covering his license plate in cling film to avoid getting a speeding ticket via speeding and red light cameras.
He explains that the cling film reflects camera flashes preventing his car from being identified. He detailed his excursions to The Mirror by stating: “I’ll take it out at 2:30 in the morning on the freeway and I’ll blast on the motorway and no police catch me and no cameras because I wrap my number plates with cling film.” While this may sound like a good idea, it’s not exactly in compliance with California traffic laws.
Why Are Gordon Ramsay’s Actions a Problem?
Ramsay’s actions are not legal on two levels. First, he’s speeding, which as everyone knows, is illegal under state traffic laws. There are instances, of course, that you can fight a speeding ticket. But, if Ramsay is driving anywhere near the top speed of his Ferrari — which can reach almost 200 mph — he’s not going to have much of a fight. In fact, depending on the speed that he drives his car, it could even be considered reckless driving.
Second, he’s preventing the police from doing their job. Although it’s not as serious as evading the police, it’s still stopping police officers from being able to fully do their job. So, while it sounds fun, what Gordon Ramsay is doing isn’t safe driving and could result in a traffic ticket, so you shouldn’t follow his lead.
Ramsay may have some good advice when it comes to cooking or running a restaurant, but his driving advice isn’t quite as admirable. If you cook up a scheme to thwart law enforcement like Ramsay’s cling film, you may want to run it by a lawyer before trying it out on the open road.
