Historical DeKalb home up for sale during sheriff’s auction
The historical former home of Hiram Ellwood at 329 N. Third St. in DeKalb is shown Monday, April 9, 2018 Mark Busch – [email protected] DeKALB – After being in foreclosure for roughly 18 months, the Victorian-style home of Hiram Ellwood , brother of barbed wire baron Isaac Ellwood, will be up for auction Thursday and faces two possibles fates: preservation or redevelopment. The home at 329 N. Third St. , built in 1884, remained in the Ellwood family until the 1940s, when it was sold and converted into student housing.
